WITTON Albion's troops came through their fifth match in 10 days, shrugging off any possible tiredness to register their best away league victory since Fleetwood Town were beaten 6-1 back in October 1989.

And the 5-1 away win at Lincoln means Albion are now unbeaten in seven games and are knocking on the door of the play-offs.

They were quickly on their way as Danny Byrne capitalised on a mistake in the Lincoln defence in the third minute to score past Nick Conroy.

Byrne and Albion were two to the good in the 21st minute when he created his own space before teeing himself up for a 25 yard shot that left Conroy flailing.

With half an hour on the clock Byrne turned provider when he chipped John Stannard's corner kick into the danger area, but Mike Moseley's header went narrowly wide of the target.

However Albion's top marksman only had an eight minute wait before claiming his 25th goal of the season.

Starting the move, Moseley fed Adam Foy who in turn found Anton Lally and the impressive midfielder's delightful through ball saw Moseley take it in his stride before planting his shot wide of Conroy's outstretched left hand.

Albion's fourth and fifth goals came in quick succession.

The 55th minute saw Lee Spike break through the flat-footed Lincoln defence to collect a through ball and as Conroy advanced he produced the perfect controlled finish to notch up his sixth goal in nine starts.

Two minutes later Spike, out on the left, sent in a cross that should have been gathered by Conroy but Byrne was on hand to sweep the ball into the net and complete his hat trick.

Albion briefly took their foot off the accelerator and withdrew Moseley to give Jordan King a run.

As they were readjusting Lincoln produced a rare attack and Ian Latham was drawn into a challenge that resulted in the referee awarding the home side a penalty.

Jonty Hawley took the kick well to give on-loan keeper Andy Ralph, who enjoyed a very confident debut otherwise, no chance.

Michael Yates then replaced Byrne and was quickly into his stride with two attempts on goal within five minutes of joining the action.

The first went into the side netting while the second flew across the face of goal.
