A VISIT to the site of a potential housing development will take place this month so that councillors can decide whether to give the scheme the go-ahead.

A previous trip to the location in Bank Gardens, Penketh, had to be postponed after problems with the minibus, so the visit was rescheduled at last Wednesday's meeting of the borough council's development control committee.

Carus Homes Ltd want to demolish buildings on the site of Payne Engineering and build eight two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom houses in its place.

Neighbours have raised concerns about the impact the scheme would have on traffic in the already busy Warrington Road, and say that the apartment block should be a single-storey building, not two storeys.

Council officers, however, say that the traffic generated from the development would not cause a significant impact on the road network.

An earlier application to build on the site included a three-storey apartment block.

Meetings took place between residents and developers, and the application was withdrawn in October last year.

Penketh and Cuerdley councillor Linda Dirir said: "The council is moving from present planning policies to the new local development framework, and part of this is that there will be a lot more consultation with residents, so with this application we were doing what we will be doing in the future.

"We had two meetings with residents, parish councillors and the developers and a lot of concerns were ironed out.

"The application for the three-storey building was withdrawn and this one put in."
