A GANG ran riot in Orford on Sunday night, assaulting a man, smashing up cars and damaging property.

Police were called to Poplars Avenue at 10pm following reports of the disturbance, which saw one man set upon with an iron bar.

Now residents say they have had enough of living in fear of the men responsible, who they claim have been terrorising the neighbourhood for weeks. One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "They have been knocking around for a few weeks now.

"They were drunk and running up and down the street with baseball bats and iron bars.

"You want to feel safe in the area you live, but people don't want to go walking around outside with all that going on.

"It's really not a nice place to live at the moment."

And another resident said: "It's absolutely disgusting that people are living in fear while these thugs go around making their lives a misery.

"Nobody should have to live like that. Something really needs to be done to sort out this problem."

Sgt Richard Spedding, of Warrington Police, said: "Cheshire Police acts positively in response to all problems relating to anti-social behaviour and acts of criminality.

"This will be followed up and investigated. We have had intelligence-led policing in the area since the incident to make sure there are no further occurrences and we hope, with the help of the public, that we can bring these offenders to justice."
