THE book was closed on Wordsworth as pupils in Stretton gained inspiration from a Warrington poet.
Cheshire-based writer David Horner took a trip to St Matthew's Primary School to hold a two-day poetry workshop for youngsters.
Listening to the author's self-penned pieces motivated the little literary enthusiasts to pick up their pens and write.
David, a former head of English at Great Sankey High School, has become a well-known visitor to classrooms across the area, to promote wider reading for youngsters.
Chris Stott, head teacher at Stretton St Matthew's, said: "It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for the children.
"They learned a lot from listening to David's work and the literary activities which followed."
