GOLBORNE Parkside's hopes of topping the North West Counties Amateur Rugby League Division Three table were dealt a blow as they lost 21-20 to leaders Shevington Sharks on Saturday.

It was the second time this season that they had lost to their rivals by that scoreline, with a solitary drop goal separating the sides.

David Long, Andy Simms and Craig Parr crossed for Parkside. Simms and Stuart Arkwright each goaled twice, while Leon Davy was named man of the match.

Golborne now face a battle with Milnrow for the second promotion spot but they turn their attention to the North West Counties Challenge Cup on Saturday when they take on Division One outfit Ulverston in the quarter-finals.

Golborne A warmed up for Saturday's North West Counties Bowl quarter-final against Langworthy Reds with a 62-6 thrashing of Newton Storm.

A Mathew Williams hat-trick plus further tries from Danny Smith, Jayhu JB Linevesery, Garry Dooney, Carl Fletcher, Anthony Dale, Neil Muir and man of the match Tom Smith helped them ease to victory, with Danny Gurhey kicking 11 goals out of 11.
