NEWTON Anglers' Association member Mark Van Den Hoek won the Newton AA Sunday open sweepstake.
Van Den Hoek beat off the opposition in the national team fundraiser event with a haul of 5lbs 2ozs 0drms that included ide, roach and skimmers.
Fellow Newton AA member Mark Brown grabbed second place after pulling the scales down at 3-4-0 with an all skimmer haul, while Warrington's Keith Wilson finished in third after collecting tench and roach to the tune of 2-12-0.
Haydock Park Farm is currently fishing well for roach, skimmer, perch, carp and hybrids on Cow Hey Dam, with 10-year-old Amy Marcroft snaring a hybrid weighing over 3lbs last week at six metres on white maggot.
Roach catches are high in number where maggot or caster have been used on the drop at the members-only section at Penkford Bridge. Fifteen-year-old Danny Tickle landed an 18-6-0 mirror carp on luncheon meat.
Newton AA permits are on sale at the Houghton Arms in Earlestown on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm. New seniors are asked to bring two small photographs for their identity pass.
