Cheshire Shield winners all set

SPORTS Personality Team of 2004 nominees Stockton Heath Tennis Club are all set to match last year's achievements when the new season begins on April 16.

They became the first men's team from Warrington to win the Cheshire Shield last season, and are now hoping to go one better and smash Lymm's hopes of winning back-to-back league titles.

The club are also confident that they can reach the regional group stage when they enter the National Club League for the first time, having been placed in Division One of the Cheshire region.

Match practice is now underway, and anyone wishing to play for any of Stockton Heath's teams is invited to attend the Delphfields Lane club on Mondays or Thursdays at 6pm.

Kings take crown

KINGS Club are the champion of champions in the Warrington Dominoes League.

The Division Two champions defeated Division Three title winners Cons B in the showdown at Bank Quay Sports Club.

Kings Club defeated Warrington Town in the semi-finals whereas Cons knocked out Borough.

The summer league will start on April 14.

Pre-season event

WARRINGTON Public Parks' Bowls League will be holding their pre-season competition at Victoria Park on Tuesday at 6.30pm.

A merit competition will also be held at the same venue on Tuesday, April 26, starting at 6.30pm. There will be no league games on that date.

Anyone wishing to enter either event for a fee of £3 should contact Derek on 415089. Entries for next week's competition close at 6.15pm on the day.

No vets' league

THERE will be no Warrington Afternoon Veterans' Bowls League running this summer.

Only six teams signed up for the league but at least eight were needed for the competition to go ahead.

No decision has been made on whether or not to establish the league again next year.

Bowler sweeps up

BOWLER Robert Lawrenson squeezed to success in the final Richmonds Winter Sweep of the year.

The St Albans player defeated Grange's John Gatley 21-20 in Sunday's showdown.

Robert's father, Peter Lawrenson, of St Albans, went out at the semi-finals stage along with fellow St Albans player John Loake.

Prizewinning pair

WARRINGTON bowlers Irene Reardon and Karen Johnstone were victorious in the All Season Travel Women's Pairs at Rylands Recreation Club on Sunday.

The duo beat Preston pair Joan Jolly and Kath Garnett 21-17 in the final of the competition.

Tennis coaching

JUNIOR tennis coaching will commence at Padgate Tennis and Bowls Club on Saturday at 2pm.

All members and non-members are welcome to attend.
