New warming up for 145-mile run

WARRINGTON'S Brian New continued his preparations for taking part in Britain's longest non-stop running race by tackling the Crompton 40.

New will be attempting the 145 miles-long Grand Union Canal Race from May 28-30 and he finished 20th in the Crompton 40 - a 40-mile race across the downs and ridgeways of Berkshire which he has completed three times.

His time was 6hrs 30mins and he came home ahead of another runner from Team Meridian, Warrington's endurance sport club.

Dave Wallis made his debut in the race and finished 53rd in 7hrs 49mins.

Everton date set

WARRINGTON Schoolboys under 11s fell to a 2-1 home defeat despite taking an early lead against Huyton.

Tom Percival's second-minute strike put Warrington in front but they were behind by half time and, despite late pressure, Warrington could not salvage a draw.

On April 16 the under 11s will take part in the North of England Schools Championships, although their next game will see them host St Helens at William Beamont Sports College on Tuesday.

That will be a dress rehearsal for the final of the Barnet Shield House Cup, which will be held at Everton's Goodison Park on May 9, kick-off 6.05pm. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Chris on 07952 390628.
