HIGH standards are being set in youth Rugby Union across Warrington this season.

Lymm Colts are leading by example and will entertain Leeds side Moretown in the Rugby Football Union's Northern Division Under 17s Championship final on Sunday.

The match will kick-off at 2pm at Beechwood, Crouchley Lane, and the teams will be competing for a place in the national semi-finals, prior to a Twickenham final.

Lymm go into the game having just returned from a successful Easter tour to Cork in Ireland, where they beat Mallow under 18s 29-10 and Munster Provincial finalists, Sunday Wells under 18s, 20-19.

Meanwhile, Warrington Colts have progressed to the final of the Lancashire Under 19s Plate.

This follows their exciting 12-6 away win against plate holders Marple Colts at the weekend.

The final will be played at a venue to be decided against either Fylde or Eccles on April 17.

Warrington virtually won the semi-final in the first half, when they outplayed their opponents in every phase and scored tries through winger Dan Griffiths and wing forward Sam Coombs. James Shaw converted once.

Across town, Eagle Colts will play in the semi-finals of the Lancashire Under 18s Cup this weekend and hope to emulate the success of the club's under 16s team, who won the Lancashire Plate final against Eccles at Widnes RUFC on Sunday.

Eagle ran out 31-12 victors and their glory day was built on their 21-0 first-half performance.

Player of the match T Radcliffe set the ball rolling with the first of his two tries.

Junior success is also being enjoyed in the town this season.

Two weeks ago Warrington's under 10s won the prestigious Vale of Lune Rugby Tournament and on Sunday it was the turn of the under nines, who are to share the trophy with Vale of Lune.

Warrington made easy work of qualifyfor the final.

In the final, Warrington went 15-0 ahead but tired and Vale secured a heart-breaking equalising try with the last play of the game.

Warrington's try scorers included Ben Hockenhull, Edward Clayton, Charlie Davies, Jack Gray and James Johnson.
