AS millions gather in Rome to mark the Pope's funeral people in and around Warrington are paying their own tributes.
Pope John Paul II died on Saturday after suffering with Parkinson's disease.
Warrington Guardian chief photographer Mike Boden looked in his archives to find a picture of the pontiff when he visited Britain in 1982.
He travelled with churchgoers from Warrington to Heaton Park in Manchester.
In a warm tribute, the Anglican Bishop of Chester The Rt Rev Dr Peter Forster, said: "John Paul II has been the most influential and significant Christian leader for many decades.
"One of my great privileges was to have lunch with him in the Vatican."
Helen Southworth, Warrington South MP, said: "He was a great man who spoke directly to people in every part of the world. In Warrington, together with people in every town and city, we will miss him."
