A GROUP of villagers will soon have a pint with a difference when they head to the pub.

Because regulars at the Grey Horse Inn, in Glazebury, will soon be able to take their pension books and letters with them as the pub bids to become a post office.

The village has been without a post office since August last year and the hunt has been on since then to find a new venue.

After the pub, on Warrington Road, and the Village Store both submitted applications - it was the pub that was chosen to keep a post office alive.

Diane Nicholson, landlady, said they would offer all post office services as well as stationary equipment too.

She added: "It has been closed since the summer so all the villagers really want a new post office."

And Clr Keith Bland, member for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft, said: "The post office is going to be in the side room of the Grey Horse pub.

"This is something that we do need in the village and I am pleased to see that somebody has got it.

"There are a lot of elderly people living in the village and at the moment they have to go to Culcheth and Leigh.

"The elderly people will be looking forward to it being open again."

The post office, also on Warrington Road, was forced to close when the previous sub-postmaster retired and was among a spate of closures that happened across the borough - especially in villages such as neighbouring Croft and Lymm.

A planning application has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council for the change of use in the building.

Meanwhile, a separate application has been submitted to turn the previous building into a home.
