WE'RE not throwing two old people out their cottage, says Halton council.
Hale Bank was rife with rumours that an elderly couple in Linner Farm Cottage in Halebank Road were being forced to leave the 380-year-old property so it could be demolished to make way for a road.
But a spokesperson for Halton Council said: "The occupants of Linner Farm Cottage, who are council tenants, are not being asked to leave their cottage, which is owned by the council.
"We are dealing with them personally about our proposal to acquire the agricultural land behind the cottage - which forms part of their tenancy - as part of the Ditton Strategic Railfreight Park.
"They do not farm the land and are happy to release it back to us."
