FIRE crews rescued two dogs from a blaze at a home in Crewe at the weekend.
Nine firefighters were called to the house in Crewe Road in the early hours of Sunday morning after the blaze ripped through the property's living room.
Three occupants, including a five-month-old child, had escaped but two dogs were trapped inside.
The dogs were later rescued from a first floor bedroom. It is believed the fire was started by an unattended candle.
A fire spokesman said: "The occupants were very lucky to escape because when the fire started, they were in bed but had no smoke detector fitted.
"This incident shows the importance of ensuring that candles are not left unattended and are positioned away from flammables.
"If smoke detectors had been fitted, the occupants would have been alerted much sooner."
