FELLOW passengers on Channel 4's latest reality TV show The Coach Trip had no idea they were in for a spot of double trouble when a Warrington mother and son joined the trip across Europe.

Hairdresser Paul Atherton and his glamorous mum Maggie, both from Rixton, joined the trip on day 20 of its 30-day journey, replacing another couple who had been voted off by their travelling companions.

And despite an attempt to rig the vote, the rest of the bus were soon won over by their bubbly personalities and fun filled approach to the holiday.

The Coach Trip is half travelogue and half reality TV with the people on board battling it out to remain on the coach for as long as they can.

Over the weeks the friendships and feuds grow as the tourists spend their days visiting attractions together, eating together and travelling together.

Unreasonable behaviour, bad table manners or a lack of team spirit can all result in fellow passengers showing their companions the red card. And so the coach trip begins for another couple.

But Paul and Maggie remain tight-lipped as to whether they stay on the bus until the bitter end.

On their whistle stop tour of Europe, Paul and Maggie visited Nice, Andorra, Cannes, Biarritz and the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao.

Maggie, aged 73, said: "It was 10 days of sheer happiness. It was great spending quality time with Paul as well, although we're very close, he's always very busy. I can honestly say it was one of the best times of my life. We met some wonderful people and we've kept in touch."

Paul, aged 49, who runs his own hair salon in Altrincham, said: "The toughest part of the whole thing was the voting. It doesn't show it much on TV but we all got into right states.

"It's really hard voting off people you get on with and having to come up with a reason why."

To find out if Paul and Maggie make it to the final destination watch The Coach Trip on Channel 4 Monday to Friday at 4.30pm and repeated at 8.30am.
