TWO people died in car crashes along the same road at the weekend.

A 35-year-old Warrington man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on the A57 Manchester Road, Paddington, on Saturday night.

The MG that he was driving towards the M6 collided with a silver Ford Fusion travelling the other way towards Warrington.

The smash happened on the Warrington-bound carriageway at around 9pm.

Two people in the Ford Fusion were taken to Warrington Hospital with injuries said to be serious but not life threatening.

A third vehicle involved in the incident failed to stop at the scene and a 25-year-old man has been arrested and bailed to appear before police at the end of May.

Hours earlier, a 46-year-old Bury man died when the Toyota Hilux he was driving towards Irlam failed to negotiate a sweeping bend along the A57 in Rixton and collided with a blue Seat car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which happened at around 12.15pm.

A male passenger, also from Bury, aged in his 20s, was seriously injured and airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital.

The 34-year-old male driver of the Seat and a 32-year-old male passenger, both from Nantwich, and a four-year-old girl from Irlam, suffereD slight injuries, were all taken to Warrington Hospital.
