BIG-HEARTED regulars at the Blundell Arms pub in Widnes raised a staggering £1,500 at a charity night for the tsunami appeal.

Intrepid volunteers plucked up the courage to have their heads shaved and legs waxed whilst others came in fancy dress.

"It was great fun," said licensee Sue Geraghty. "Everyone wanted to get involved and made a lot of effort. We'd like to thank everyone for their support."

She would like to say a special thank you to all the local businesses who generously donated raffle prizes.

Another giant fundraising event is being held this weekend as Sue and her daughters, Stacey and Joanne stage a charity weekend in aid of Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

"A little girl from Widnes, Leyla Shepherd, who is just turned one, was born with a heart problem and received great care from Alder Hey," said Sue. "We want to raise money for the hospital to say thank you to all the nurses and doctors."

A football match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, April 16, followed by a disco and karaoke in the evening.
