THE firm behind ambitious plans to build a multi-million-pound leisure complex in Middlewich claim they are just weeks away from making a big announcement.

Marjory Issatt, director of MPS UK Ltd, says plans for an Olympic sized swimming pool and state of the art leisure facilities are progressing well and that she and business partner Michael Davey will be able to reveal their proposals within the month.

Ms Issatt said: "The planning application is virtually ready to be submitted. It's exciting but disbelief is starting to set in because we have had so many setbacks."

Almost a year ago the pair, as MID Point Sports, announced they were weeks away from securing a site at Pochin Way but in December the company went bankrupt after a winding order was served against the directors.

Middlewich town councillors have also been working on their own plans for a pool as Middlewich and District Sports and Leisure Trust (MADSALT).

Clr Alison Roylance-White said MADSALT members are in the process of conducting a feasibility study for a pool at Middlewich Leisure Centre, in King Edward Street.

She said: "We have been looking at various aspects such as funding and have been continuing with the feasibility study. We are due to meet up and discuss our findings later this month."
