MIDDLEWICH residents are set to benefit from a free garden waste bin this week as part of Congelton Borough Council's kerbside recycling scheme.

The council is extending its kerbside green waste collection service to maximise the amount of recyclable and composting material collected and divert valuable material away from landfill sites.

Delivery of the brown wheelie bins for garden waste began on Monday.

The bins are due to be collected on the same day each week and a calendar of collection dates will also be posted out to residents.

Residents with large gardens can buy extra bins at £15 a year for one bin and properties not suitable for the wheelie bin can exchange it for two 70-litre biodegradable bags, which are replaced on collection day free of charge.

A council spokeswoman said: "All residents will now benefit from this very popular and highly successful kerbside scheme. Its continuing success is reliant on the bins only being used for the purpose supplied, so contamination or misuse will unfortunately result in bins being removed."
