HUNDREDS of schoolchildren will descend upon Middlewich within the next fortnight to take part in a safety education project.

Yesterday, Tuesday, Middlewich Civic Hall opened its doors to Safety Town, an initiative aimed at showing children how to avoid danger on the streets and in the home.

In the next two weeks children from primary schools across the borough will be learning skills that will save their lives. Tony Potts, community safety officer for Congleton Borough Council, said: "We hope that schoolchildren who come along to Safety Town will feel safer and more confident after taking part. It will also help them to become good citizens."
