THE future looks bright for youngsters in Moulton after an event held for them proved to be an unexpected success.

Organisers had high hopes for the Klub Nite event, held at the village hall, but were delighted when 65 children turned up, exceeding their expectations and ensuring the event will be the first of many.

Angela Bush, secretary of the Implementation of Moulton Parish Plan (IMPP) youth group, said: "It worked really well and we were all pleased.

"There were more 14 to 15-year-olds than we expected - you wouldn't think they would come to something like this with strict rules against alcohol and smoking when a lot of them smoke and drink these days."

This was the first event organised by the IMPP youth group after youth activities were identified as an issue in the Parish Plan.

Teenagers later enjoyed musical entertainment provided by local DJs.

Angela said: "The DJs weren't like school disco DJs, they were mixing music and a lot of the youngsters hadn't experienced anything like that before - they were used to bog standard discos."

Nearly all the young people at the event filled in questionnaires about starting a new youth club in Moulton and early indications are that this has unanimous support.

The IMPP youth group has applied to Cheshire County Council for funding for a regular youth club.

Anyone wishing to get involved is welcome to attend the next meeting at the Lion Hotel, Main Road, on April 20 at 7.30pm.
