A RUDHEATH man will be scaling the heights to raise money for a cancer charity.

And David Curbishley, 50, should have no problem getting fit as his son Lee, who studies sports therapy and fitness training, is preparing a programme for him.

When David, of Wright Avenue, saw an advert in a newspaper asking for people to climb African peak Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for MacMillan Nurses, he decided to take part.

He applied with a work colleague from The Barber Shop, in High Street, and is expecting to go early next year.

He said: "It will be a huge challenge.

"The main problem will be altitude and dehydration."

In the meantime Dave, who lives with his wife Dawn, son Lee, 21 and twins James and Sarah, 17, has already started training at Dave's Gym.

He has also organised a host of fundraising activities in Weaver Square this Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15, to raise the £3,275 he needs for the trip.

On Saturday at 2pm, the Elite Dance School will be performing and nine-year-old Tom Hewson, from Rudheath, will be doing some impressions.

Dave has also arranged a balloon race and has been provided with a car by Birtwisle's, which he intends to fill with balloons and ask people to guess how many there are.

He added: "My family are backing me all the way. I am looking forward to it."
