BOROUGH councillors are concerned that the Northwich Vision scheme is only ranked as the fourth priority in Cheshire County Council's Local Transport Plan.

And at a meeting on Thursday they are expected to agree to send a letter voicing their concerns about the next stage of a five-year transport blueprint.

Five major schemes have been identified to take forward if Government funding is available, including the Northwich Vision.

Other schemes, including the A34 Alderley Edge bypass, a regeneration project at Crewe Station and a programme of schemes for the Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road, have been given greater priority.

A borough council report said: "The council considers the Northwich Vision should be promoted as a major scheme with the highest priority within the next Local Transport Plan.

"The proposal provides the critical link in the regeneration proposals for the town centre that is likely to generate significant levels of investment.

"There is a partnership in place to deliver the proposals that enjoys support from the Northwest Regional Development Agency and national level though agencies such as English Partnerships."
