EMPLOYEES at a Northwich engineering company conquered their fears and raised £1,426 for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Brave workers at Weir Engineering took part in a sponsored abseil at St Chad's Church in Winsford and gave a boost to the charity.

Organisers of the event were delighted with the amount of money raised by the company.

Ann Kilburn, office manager at Weir Engineering, said: "We have never done anything like this before but it was great fun.

"I didn't take part myself but the people who did do the abseil did fantastically well in raising the money."

This is the second year the event has taken place and all the money will go to the Anthony Nolan Trust, which organises a bone marrow donor register.

Ann said: "A flyer just came through our door explaining what the event was like and people thought it was a good idea.

"Some of the people who took part are petrified of heights so it wasn't an easy thing to do.

"One girl blasphemed all the way down the side of the church but she made it in the end.

"We are really proud of them and hope the money makes a real difference."
