The long wait for answers

IT could take months or years before investigations into the deaths of two Leftwich babies from an aggressive rare form of leukaemia are completed.

The news follows a meeting held between concerned residents, representatives of Muir Group Housing Association, representatives from Vale Royal Borough Council, Central Cheshire Primary Care Trust (PCT), the Health Protection Agency and Alder Hey Hospital.

The purpose of the meeting was to hear residents' concerns; inform residents about environmental studies that are under way on a former tip site near their homes on the Muirfield Close estate and agree how they could be involved in the investigations.

Officials and residents want to know whether there could be any environmental factors linked to the deaths of two children from a rare form of leukaemia.

This is just one of many factors that are being examined - others include lifestyle, eating habits, experiences during pregnancy and medical history.
