MIDDLEWICH Town's hopes of retaining the Mid Cheshire First Division title could effectively end this week.

Terry Murphy's side face two tricky fixtures over the next four days first facing Golborne Sports at Middlewich tonight, Wednesday, followed by the visit of Knutsford to Seddon Street on Saturday.

And they are two games that could make or break Town's season.

On paper, the visit of Golborne should be easy for Town as they are currently bottom of the league, having won just three games all season.

But a defeat for Middlewich, in a game they should win, could spell disaster for Murphy's side who would stay below Barnton despite having played four games more.

The visit of Knutsford promises to be a much more difficult task as the one-time Division One force are enjoying something of a resurgence.

Knutsford are fourth in the league and continued their good run of form last week with a win over Trafford Reserves.

Barnton were scheduled to play Knutsford last night, Tuesday, and Middlewich must at least match the result of their rivals to stand a chance of winning the league.
