MOND picked up three more valuable points against a strong Grange Athletic side.

Leading scorer Matty Nelson put Mond in front after only 90 seconds and a high scoring game looked on the cards but this proved to be a false dawn as Mond, who were creating chances, could not add to their lead.

Ale Maxwell had a chance kicked off the line then Grange had a fortunate penalty awarded in their favour.

Experienced keeper Barry Taylor forced the shot wide of the right hand post to keep Mond's lead.

Despite lots of pressure on the Mond goal chances were created and missed and Grange, despite playing the neater football, lacked in the final third of the field.

The second half continued in the same vane, Grange man of the match, Phil Selby, pulled the strings for Grange who were playing some neat football.

Mond competed well and were always trouble for Grange's back four but needed a record to make the game safe.

It took until the 80th minute for this to arrive after shots had been stopped on the line from Ged Bushell and Matty Nelson.

A through ball was blocked by the keeper but Nelson's challenge led to the ball falling to Alex Maxwell's feet and he scored with a tap in.

Maxwell got Mond's third in the 85th minute as things swung Mond's way in the last 10 minutes and Matt Johnson set up Ged Bushell to get Mond's fourth.

ONE win from promotion to the first division following this important victory at Ashville on Saturday.

Two goals in the first half hour led to a comfortable afternoon for Gary Moore's team.

A cross by Gary Lunt was chested home by Mark Robinson in the 14th minute.

A foul on Ryan Broadhead brought Mond a penalty in the 30th minute, Gary Lunt, converted the spot kick.

In mid week Mond Reserves travelled to Bromborough to play Manor Athletic in a third division from manager John Crompton has guided his team within striking distance of promotion but they must win all their games in hand, three of them away.

Mond were 4-0 up after 35 minutes with goals from Nelson, Patterson, Tull and Droughton.

Mond were reduced to 10 men to make it an up hill second half.

Bushell scored from a penalty Manor got a consolation goal and Mond keeper Bate saved two penalties to ensure victory.

Next Saturday Mond travel to Liverpool to play Manweb in a second division fixtures, kick-off 3pm.
