ALSAGER Town are up to seventh place in the table following a 3-0 victory at Atherton LR on Tuesday night.

They ran out easy winners against their mid-table opponents, having the ball in the net five times before finally taking the lead.

Five Alsager goals were ruled out for offside, and it was still goalless at the interval.

McNutt headed just over for Atherton on the restart, and Mitchell hit the bar for Alsager.

Alsager had to wait until 10 minutes before the end to break the deadlock.

Brotherton put them in front from Heler's cross, and added a second six minutes later following a cross from Patel.

Patel put his name on the scoresheet with Alsager's third goal a minute before the end.

Alsager paid the price for not taking their chances on Saturday as they went down at Newcastle Town.

They deserved at least a point from their away clash, but ended 2-1 losers against their second-placed opponents.

Alsager made a superb start, taking the lead after only eight minutes.

Brotherton chased a long ball wide on the left, the keeper hesitated and Brotherton fired home into an empty net from an acute angle.

The Alsager keeper made two good saves from shots by Lennon and Woodvine, and Newcastle drew level on 14 minutes.

Alsager failed to clear the ball, and it fell to Woodvine 20 yards out, who scored with a powerful drive.

Alsager kept up the pressure on Newcastle, and should have regained the lead on 27 minutes when Fraser's fine cross found Heler at the far post.

He had the goal at his mercy, but put his shot wide.

Brotherton forced a fine save from the Newcastle keeper at the start of the second half, and from the resulting corner Stokes saw his shot cleared off the line.

A lack of concentration cost Alsager dear four minutes before the end.

The Newcastle player manager Gleghorn was allowed a free header following a corner to score the winner.

Alsager are at home to Salford tomorrow, and Skelmersdale next Tuesday.
