Wigan St Pats 6

Bank Quay Bulls 22

BANK Quay Bulls set up a semi final meeting with Widnes Ball Bulldogs in the North West Counties Cup after winning at Wigan St Pats on Friday night.

Bulls, who have already earned promotion to the NWC Premier Division as well as triumphing in the Lancashire Cup, started the game the stronger side and went ahead after only four minutes.

The impressive Carl Turner made his first contribution of the match by powering his way over the whitewash, with Dean Braddish converting to give Bulls the best possible start.

And after Bank Quay had withstood some intense pressure as St Pats took advantage of a number of penalties to dominate possession, Turner was on hand to score again.

The stand off stepped through several tackles to touch down between the posts for another converted try, and when Dale Catterall capitalised on a repeat set to cross the game was virtually over as a contest.

Shortly after half time St Pats reduced the margin to 12 points with a converted try of their own, but a resolute defensive display prevented the home side from making any further inroads into Bulls' lead.

Dean Braddish, whose kicking game consistently gave Bank Quay good field position, then added two more penalties to ease Bulls through to the last four of the competition.

Bank Quay travel to Widnes on Saturday for the semi-final clash with Bulldogs, with the game kicking off at 2.30pm.
