I FREQUENTLY read of the fire brigade being called out to fires in wheelie bins. Surely the problem is not that bins are put out early but that residents are too lazy to take them in.
The Orford estate is littered with bins, some actually kept outside the flat doorways, even though the occupiers have a secure place to keep them. This is just asking for trouble and putting residents' lives at risk.
Anyone who has the means to keep their bin in a secure place and fails to do so should be made to pay, not only for the cost of a new bin, but the cost of the fire brigade being called out. This would soon cut down on the time wasted by the fire service owing to residents' stupidity and laziness.
