IF Warrington Borough Council's mollycoddled staff have been provided with free car parking in public car parks, could chief executive David Whitehead kindly confirm if they have been taxed on this 'benefit in kind'? If not has the tax office been informed?
I suspect that, if the hundreds of people who have to work in the town centre had their car parking charges paid by their employers, they would be pursued for every penny by the tax people.
You report that the council is considering far-reaching plans to tackle the town's traffic jams. Requiring council staff to travel in to work by bus (not free) would be a sensible measure.
