JOHN Howard enjoyed good tench action at Rixton Claypits when he presented his homemade paste concoction on a light quiver tip set-up.

No other feed was introduced which says a lot for the pulling power of his recipe.

Steve Edge had a Sunday evening session on the venue, where he had half a dozen roach, three bream and a brace of tench over the 4lbs mark after fishing a waggler close up to the bank, with loose-fed sweetcorn as the successful bait.

At Grey Mist Mere, Steve Campbell tempted a tench of 8lbs 8ozs 0drms along with a 13-5-0 mirror and a leather of 17-0-0.

Alan Bond had five tench to 8lbs and mirrors of 10-0-0, 15-8-0 and 16-0-0. A few small pike have been caught on sprats.

Sandiway large lake produced a cracking tench of 8-10-0 for member Darren Owens, plus a common carp of 17-8-0. Both were taken on boilies.

Members visiting our High Legh Fisheries are reporting plenty of small rudd and tench to maggot, but member Dave Lawrenson targeted the bigger specimens and had ghost carp of 9-6-0 and 11-8-0, as well as mirrors of 10-6-0 and 13-2-0. All took pop-up strawberry boilies.

The match at Carter House on Saturday did not live up to expectations of the previous weekend's reported pleasure catches, and the cold weather put paid to sport as most anglers struggled for a bite, although Tony Darbyshire had a succession of small roach and rudd on pole and maggot for his winning net of 4-5-0.

When the weather improves we will try again when hopefully weights will include some large bream.

Cicily Mill Pool is open on Saturday with the majority of the work on the pathways and pegs now completed. The volunteers are having a well-earned break - many thanks to them all for their valiant efforts.

Please contact me with any catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street will open as usual tomorrow, Friday, between 7pm and 9.30pm for subscriptions and new members.
