PUPILS at Latchford Primary School were treated to a day of home-made science experiments during a chemistry workshop on Friday.
Lorelly Wilson, a University of Manchester fellow in the communications of chemistry, travels to different schools to help raise interest in the subject.
The chemistry enthusiast, who lives in Knutsford, said: "A lot of people don't realise how much chemistry can be done with safe chemicals at home. You don't need a laboratory to conduct high level chemistry. I give the children some ideas they can show their parents and get interested in things they can access themselves."
The pupils used acidity indicators to test for alkalinity, looked at the reactions of household chemicals, such as soap, sugar and vinegar, and made basic plastic polymers to take home.
Lorelly, whose work is funded by Partic Mulpisoll, explained a simple experiment readers could try at home.
She said: "If you warm a little milk and add a spoonful of vinegar you can make a basic polymer."
