CULCHETH High School's under 19s soccer team, left, are the proud holders of the Cheshire Cup. The school had not previously gone beyond the quarter finals of the competition but captain Chris Davies and manager Bruce Welsford were determined that this year would be different. The team beat previous winners Ellesmere Port in the final after despatching Lymm, Great Sankey and Sandbach High schools on the way to the semi finals, where they succeeded 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out against Kings School, Chester. In the final, Ellesmere Port scored first and Mathew Moore equalised. Twenty minutes from the end Chris Whittle put through an excellent pass that allowed Tom Ball to score the winning goal.
