STRIKER Steve Jones wants to end a difficult year with a glut of goals to keep Crewe in the Championship.

Although his prematurely-born son Milo was involved in a medical emergency less than 24 hours prior, the 28-year-old still somehow mustered a man-of-the-match display at Millwall.

Family's been an obvious number one over recent months with understandable infrequent spells in the side.

Football's proved a diversion for him though and after glimmers of his best during the last few games, Jonah's keen to help the Alex finish on a high.

"It's been a horrible year for me to be honest and I can't wait for the season to end, have a break and come back stronger," he explained.

"Everyone's been superb at the club.

"It's nice to get out on the training pitch or playing and let off some steam.

"Hopefully I can get a few more goals to keep us up.

"It would be a nice end to a difficult year."

Jonah believes the fightback at Millwall illustrates their spirit.

"Out three goals were well taken and I thought we'd win it," he added.

"The penalty killed us really.

"As soon as he (Dennis Wise) came on, he was straight in the referee's ear and looking for a decision.

"We got a penalty and I think the referee evened it up.

"But we showed a lot of spirit to come back from 3-0 down and some sides would have caved in."

The players are confident they can do the business.

"We're creating chances, it would be alarming if we weren't," he continued.

"We just need a win and hopefully it will be at Gillingham.

"It's a six pointer and they're hard to beat at home but I think we'll play less football and use Andy as a target man.

"We've got two left at home and they're massive games for us.

"We just need that win to give us confidence."
