A SKATEBOARDING ramp and climbing frame are just two pieces of equipment that could be springing up in a Penketh park thanks to a £40,000 boost.

The WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd) grant will be used to revamp Wythenshawe Recreation Ground, off Warrington Road.

Penketh parish councillor Linda Dirir said: "The equipment on Greystone Recreation Ground is for children up to the age of 10, so we really wanted to provide something for older children in the area."

In addition to this money, a grant of more than £34,000 will be pumped into providing access for people with disabilities to Penketh Pool and Community Centre. This will also pay for a hoist to help them to swim.

Clr Dirir said: "The whole front of the building will be accessible when we have spent this money.

"We are really delighted with both of these grants."

In Great Sankey, a grant of more than £4,000 will refurbish Thurston Close Play Area.

WREN distributes landfill tax credits to community and environmental projects.

Richard Smith, project manager for Warrington and Halton, said: "These projects will provide a terrific range of community and environmental benefits that can only enrich the landscape.

"We are looking to fund projects similar to these in 2005 and will welcome any enquiries from organisations."

Groups interested in applying for grants should call WREN on 01953 717165.
