DISTRICT Primary School could be the home of a revolutionary new children's centre.

Borough councillors were discussing plans to house a centre in the grounds of the Patterson Street school as the Newton and Golborne Guardian went to press.

The centre, which is a new Government plan, would provide education and day care for children in the area.

It will aim to promote and improve health for children, young people and their families seven days a year.

Included in the plans is a scheme to provide a link with counselling services and the job centre.

However, there have been five letters of objection to the blueprints from neighbours.

These include possible disturbance because of the long opening hours and the possibility of the centre opening at weekends.

For the result of the meeting, read next Thursday's Guardian.
