TWO policemen were attacked by a gang of four men on Newton High Street.
The pair, who were both off duty, were taken to Warrington Hospital after being assaulted by the men outside the Ariete restaurant.
A 47-year-old officer required stitches for severe cuts to his face, while his 40-year-old colleague was treated for bruising and cuts.
Following the incident at 1am on April 1, two men from Manchester, aged 28 and 43, a 34-year-old from Greater Manchester and a 38-year-old man from Culcheth were arrested.
The men were bailed pending further police inquiries.
