A WARRINGTON man who sells real estate in Florida is warning people to beware of the lure of American property.

Paul Irwin, aged 37, moved from Howley to Florida seven years ago after meeting his wife through an Internet chat room. He was in Warrington last week after exhibiting at A Place In The Sun's show in London.

While delighting in his new American life, Paul is urging people to think carefully about the implications of buying in the USA and said: "An awful lot of people think that by buying in the USA they will have a right to live there, but that's not the case."

He says the strong pound has encouraged more people to snap up properties in Florida, where he lives and works and agrees these can be good investments. However, for people looking to buy in the States, Paul says older houses can be as worthwhile as new builds.

He said: "Some companies only push new build properties because the realtor makes three times as much money from selling them. I would say to people to take a look at everything."
