MIDDLEWICH residents will say a fond farewell to one of the town's first class businesses today, Wednesday.
From midday Middlewich Post Office will cease to exist at the One Stop Shop, in Wheelock Street, only to reopen a week later at a new location in Lewin Street.
Last May when Tesco announced it was taking over the One Stop Shop it revealed that keeping the post office was not part of its plans.
Councillors and residents stepped up a campaign to make sure that Middlewich did not lose its vital service and in December Raman Mistry, owner of the Mistry Pharmacy, stepped in to offer his business premises as the post office's new home. Congleton borough councillor Pam Farrell, who spearheaded the campaign, said she is thrilled the changeover is going so well and can't wait to see the new premises up and running.
She said: "It's been great to see the work going ahead. I popped down to the new site for a look the other day and it's looking smashing."
l The new Middlewich Post Office is on schedule to open at 9am next Wednesday, May 27.
In the interim period customers are advised to use Cledford Post Office, in Warmingham Lane, Winsford Post Office, in Dingle Walk, or Holmes Chapel Post Office, in London Road.
