A PAINTER and decorator found guilty of twice raping a woman he met in a pub yesterday got the green light to challenge his convictions.

London's Criminal Appeal court concluded Derek Coles had an 'arguable' grounds for appeal relating to new expert evidence. Coles, 39, formerly of Blantyre Street, was jailed for eight and a half years at Warrington Crown court last year, after being found guilty of indecent assault, two counts of rape and one of false imprisonment.

The appeal court yesterday (Tuesday) granted him permission to challenge the rape and false imprisonment convictions.

No date was set for the appeal hearing.
