A TEENAGER has been charged with grievous bodily harm following an incident which has left a 14-year-old boy in intensive care.

The boy was yesterday, Tuesday, described as being in a 'critical but stable' condition following the alleged attack on Grampion Way, near its junction with Mount Pleasant Drive, between 10pm and 10.30pm on Saturday night.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with grievous bodily harm against the 14-year-old on Monday as well as two charges of actual bodily harm and one charge of assault by beating in relation to alleged assaults against three other people during the same incident.

Det Insp Danny Brophy, investigating officer, is appealing for witnesses and information.

He said: "We do need anybody who witnessed any of the incidents that night because this is a serious assault against a young lad.

"I would treat any investigation seriously whether it's a child or not, but it's more emotive for the people involved and feelings will be running high in that area."

The 14-year-old was taken to Leighton Hospital on Sunday morning after police responded at 11.05am to reports of the incident.

He was later transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool and as the Guardian went to press he remained in the intensive care unit.

The 17-year-old will appear in Vale Royal Youth Court today, Wednesday, to face the four charges.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should contact Det Insp Danny Brophy at Northwich CID on 01244 613258.
