The latest entry is from Cobalt Partners, which has entered the Business of the Year award.

If shortlisted, the firm will be invited to attend a glittering gala award evening, which takes place at Portal Golf and Country Club, Tarporley, on Wednesday, June 15.

Director Janet Thorpe included details of how the business has grown significantly and increased its profits.

She said sales growth in 2004 was in excess of £2million and the firm won major contracts with major food retailers Heinz, Premier Foods and Nestl.

Janet said the firm has strong communications and good communication between employers and employees.

The firm had increased its market penetration thanks to its innovative products and services.

Janet said: "Our innovation is in the technical excellence we add to our products - we specify the right combination of products, configure them accurately to meet our customers' requirements, install, commission and train."

In 2004 the company undertook a £500,000 project to introduce automation for Heinz. This project was successful and led to interest from other food manufacturers.

It also handled a £250,000 project for a division of Nestl, which insisted on using Cobalt as its Auto Id supplier.

The company's single biggest customer in 2004 was Premier Foods, where labelling solutions were successfully implemented in more than five sites.

Janet added: "We are proud of our energetic and capable employees who develop expertise in their job area and contribute valuable ideas for the development of the company.

"We all concentrate on getting solutions right from the outset and preventing rework."
