IT will be a battle between man and machine when the Thundersprint races into town next month.

With big star names such as double gold medal-winning rower James Cracknell and Top Gear presenter James May appearing at the event, you could be forgiven for thinking the riders were bringing all the glamour to the free show on May 8.

But event organiser Frank Melling said the bikes might steal the limelight.

He added: "There's going to be so many exotic vehicles on show so it's not just the riders who'll be drawing the crowds in."

Peter Spowage, the force behind the Historic Endurance Racing Team, is bringing three Honda 4 models to the race. One will be raced by Jim Redman and American journalist Ken Hutchison will be on another.

Derek Vaux will race on an Italian MV Agusta SPR, a bike which lays claim to being one of the classiest on the road. MVs are often preserved in museums but according to Frank it is easy to see why this bike is not for display purposes only.
