THE first of the league's six final nights was staged at the RNA Club last Thursday night.

The first to take the stage were Halfway Mixed and Quayside who were competing in the section four final of the Committee Challenge cup which consisted of three singles games, then three pairs games, concluding with a further three singles games.

Halfway Mixed won all three of the initial singles games. Quayside then opened their account with a win from Gordon Abram and Dave French in the first of the pairs games only to see Halfway Mixed restore their three games lead through James Walker and Wayne Conway, Mike Bishton and Joe McMahon then reduced the Quayside deficit to 4/2. The first of the remaining three singles, however, resulted in an unassailable 5/2 lead for Halfway Mixed with a win from Wayne Conway and this was followed by a win from Quayside's Graham Cooper.

The remaining singles games went to Halfway Mixed's Chris Baines making the final score Halfway Mixed 6 Quayside 3.

Next to be staged was the final of the Apec Taxi's KO cup featuring Halfway A and Albion. The games in this competition consisted of 301 up double start and finish. Paul Melia put Albion into an early lead but the scores were then levelled at one game all with a win from Halfway A's Steve Worrall.

Four games later, however, resulted in Albion retaining the cup with wins from Phil Littler, Colin Rigby, Neil Dunbebin and John Kilkenny with the latter producing a finish of 110 (60,18,32).

Halfway A's Karl Dand reduced the score o 5/2 but wins from Albion's Ron Fisher and Eamonn Hartigan made the final score Halfway A 2 Albion 7.

Last Friday night the RNA Club was the venue for two further finals. The night started with the section three final of the Committee Challenge cup between Weston Point SC and Dev Superstars. The first of the three initial singles games went in favour of Weston Point SC's Dave Graven followed by Dev's Paul Tyndall squaring the match to one game all. Weston Point SC then regained the lead through Mike Bentley only to see the first of the pairs games go to Paul Tyndall and Jack Peterson. The scores were then locked at three games all when firstly Weston Point SC's Rob Fish and Darren French won followed by a win from Kev Duffield and Dave Garner.

In the first of the three remaining singles games Jack Peterson put Dev Superstars into the lead for the first time and the next game saw Dev Superstars make certain of the cup with a win from Tony Garner.

The remaining game went in favour of Weston Point SC's Darren French.

Next came the final of the Chairman's Challenge cup, which featured two of the leading teams in the town, namely Albion and Navvy but unfortunately neither team played to their full potential.

Albion won games one, three and five through Roy Chiocchi, Nigel Peterson and Phil Littler but on each occasion Navvy levelled the scores with wins from Graham Littlemore, Kev Coles and Neil Ward with Kev Coles hitting the quickest game on the night of 18 darts.

Nick Hough then put Albion into a 4/3 lead but this was levelled at four games all with a win from Navvy's Ian Darlington.

In a tense deciding leg it was Albion's anchorman John Kilkenny who won the day and so helped his team to retain the trophy.

Trophies sand prize monies were presented by Mr Allan Lally, one of the league's main sponsors.
