MOORE United cruised into the final of the James Drinkwater Cup with a comprehensive victory over third division Widnes Bayer on Saturday.

The underdogs were rarely able to pose a threat as United rolled to a convincing 8-1 win.

The Moore goals were from Kris Taylor (2), Matt O'Dwyer (2), Sean Willett (2) and Tony Wardle and Wayne Jones with singletons. Their opponents will now be Halton Borough who won a pulsating game against Frontrunner premier strugglers Haydock on penalties.

The game was locked one goal each after 90 minutes and then at 2-2 after a further 30 minutes.

Borough held their nerve when it mattered most to claim the victory 3-2 on penalties.

This year's Depot cup winners are Act R Sports who swept to a notable win 4-0 at Bennetts Rec last Thursday evening.

In their first season the Runcorn outfit proved too strong for their opponents Mill Brow.

Act R could now wrap up the dream start to their Warrington League career by taking the third division title too.

The title is between them and Runcorn Athletic who hold a narrow two-point lead with two games left.

Act R Sports' 5-3 win over last season's Depot cup winners Spartak, ensures that they now have the title in their own hands with a game in hand of Athletic.

On the league scene Halebank have seized the initiative with steady progress throughout the year.

Their 5-3 win over last season's champions St Michael's has earned them the chance to win only their second title.

Halebank trail by just two points but have three games to play, whilst Penlake has just one outstanding game to play.

St Michaels endured a miserable week, losing to local rivals Moorfield in mid-week by 4 goals to 1.

Rainhill Town stayed ahead in the Grange Valley sponsored first division table with a vital 3-1 mid-week win against Halton Borough.

Blackbrook have found good end of season form to boost their hopes, Saturdays 6-1 win at Avon Athletic boosting their title ambitions.

Beechwood sealed the second division championship in emphatic style on Saturday winning 9-2 at strugglers Lomax CC to wrap up the title.

Just three games were completed in reserve division one during the course of the week, none with any bearing on the championship.

Culcheth Sports won a typical end of term encounter with St Michaels 2-0.
