A NEW look activity centre was unveiled for Newton residents on Sunday.
Hundreds of balloons were released to mark the development's opening on the Greenwood Close housing estate.
Liberal Democrat councillor Suzanne Knight was on hand to officially cut the ribbon.
More than £23,000 was raised by residents to achieve the new venture, which accommodates a range of activities including coffee mornings and bingo.
A computer and library has already been installed at the centre
Almost £16,500 was provided by Coalfields Regeneration Trust, who fund regeneration projects with additional funding from Merseyside Expanding Horizons
The new conservatory, which houses the activity centre, has been built on to the residents' community room and will provide services for 150 homes.
Peter Dutton, of the estate's residents' association, said: "It was fantastic to receive the funding and we are really pleased with the new activity centre.
"It's a valuable addition to the estate.
"The association has worked really hard and I'm delighted the fundraising efforts have paid off."
