GOLBORNE Parkside clinched an 18-16 home win against Ashton Bears to reach the final of the North West Counties Challenge Cup despite having two players sent off and two more sin-binned.

Parkside completed another giant-killing act to become the first NWC Amateur Rugby League Division Three side to reach the final, where they will face Widnes Ball Bulldogs, even though they had to play with a three-man disadvantage at times.

Golborne took the lead in front of a large crowd as Andy Simms' penalty was followed by a try from Chris Reynolds, who was then dismissed before half time.

After Ashton had levelled Chris Woods restored Parkside's lead, and although the visitors reduced the margin to two points with another try, Neil Muir went over before Gary Dooney was also sent off.

Parkside are in league action at Clock Face on Saturday.

Golborne A moved into fourth in the league with a 44-6 win against Latchford Albion. Tommy Smith and Anthony Dale crossed twice, while Danny Smith, Jayhu JB Linevesery, Jay Wright and Andy Bamford also touched down.
