IAN Winstanley continues to hit the heights on the golfing scene and has been described as one of the most promising and talented youngsters in the country by a coach.

His Faldo Series win, as reported in last week's Warrington Guardian, has been matched by his first Northern Order of Merit victory.

The 17-year-old from Appleton, who has a plus one handicap, won the Crosby Plate at West Lancashire Golf Course.

These successes follow up his selections for the Cheshire and British Boys teams.

He was also crowned Cheshire Under 18s Boys' Champion last year.

Despite his success and talent, Ian is still looking to improve his game.

He said: "I really enjoy playing golf and winning makes it even better, but I feel you can always keep improving your game.

"Each competition and event has something new to offer and I look to each as a new challenge."

For several years he has been a pupil at Drivetime, where the coach and professional, Adrian Fryer, has watched Winstanley improve.

Fryer said: "He is extremely committed to improving his game and he has a great attitude that was evident in him winning two of the biggest amateur tournaments in the north of England, proving he is one of the most promising and talented youngsters in the country."
