go down to
final defeat
Warrington Colts 12
Eccles Colts 24
WARRINGTON Rugby Union Club's exciting colts side were beaten in the final of the Lancashire and Cheshire Plate at Sandbach on Sunday.
If they could have guaranteed a little more ball, the result could have been quite different.
As it was, the Warrington backs had little chance to shine but when they did have possession they showed that they had a distinct edge over their opponents.
Unfortunately, the game was won up front and the drilled Eccles eight took control of all phases of forward play to clock up four tries.
Warrington responded with two second-half tries, one from a kick ahead by Rickard and the other a superbly executed backs try finished off by James Shaw, but by this time the game was over as a contest.
Although a win would have been a fitting end to a successful season, Colts can still take pride in reaching their first county cup final.
