IT'S a tough task, but Warrington South independent candidate Paul Kennedy says he is hopeful of making an impact in the May vote.

The Appleton resident says he has contemplated standing since 1993 but decided that 2005 was the right time.

He said: "I will be making only one promise to the electorate of Warrington South.

"That unlike the opposition parties I will promise not to wish failure on this country in all its many facets for my own political gain."

The independent candidate said the first challenge will be to win enough votes to retain his deposit - five per cent of the total cast.

"I felt this was the time to move rapidly to say to people that there is a difference from party

politics with a leader."

His policies include dealing firmly and swiftly with illegal immigration, keeping Britain's identity within the EU and simplifying the structures of the state services.
